Trattoria Leone is a tasty addition to Dubrovnik’s historical Old Town restaurant offerings. Shift has designed an exciting verbal and visual identity for trattoria Leone that captures the charm of the town as well as the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the new restaurant. The branding concept needed to be welcoming and charming, but also suitably high-class, to convey the quality of the trattorias cuisine. Our team worked through several variations of verbal and visual identity before creating a logo featuring a lion mane, that is both sophisticated and iconic. The new visual identity is based on one of Dubrovnik's most famous landmarks, the beautiful water fountain and the motif of stone gargoyle lion's heads with a wild mane that sips drinking water. The lion symbol is a traditional motif in the medieval culture and architecture of Dubrovnik. The restaurant’s name Leone means “lion” in Italian, derived from Greek leon with the same meaning. The name is familiar to a wide audience and has positive connotations in various languages, as the trattoria aims at international guests. The name is easy to remember and to pronounce and positions the restaurant clearly as superior Italian cuisine. Utilizing a palette of warm and earthy tones, the identity perfectly complements the logo design as the selected colours symbolize the idyllic setting of the Old Town.
