For the occasion of their 20th anniversary, the management of Radio "Mir" Medjugorje commissioned us to design the award for the most performed song / artist. The statue design was first started on paper as a pencil sketch. The real problems began in the first phase of making the award. Here it was important that what had been mentally conceived and roughly sketched on paper could be successfully converted to an actual three dimensional model. The process of 3D printing was accomplished at "Intera" Technology Park in Mostar, and we want to take this opportunity to thank Intera’s leadership, headed by director Vedran Simunovic, for their support and understanding. After the model was “printed”, we started with the processing and preparation for varnishing. After selecting the base and color for the varnish, the model was left for two days in the paint shop, during which time we searched for two more materials: a stainless steel tube that would connect the statue with the base, and a wood (walnut) cube that would serve as a base. Connecting this together into a single entity was actually the most demanding part of the entire process. The solution was a "custom-made" screw which passed from the bottom of the sculpture (the wooden base), through the stainless steel tube, and into the body of the 3D model which, prior to this, had been pierced to a certain depth. In this way the difficulties of the production of this award were solved and the result is a compact and attractive statue which draws attention and invites touch. We hope that these other (touches) won’t have a (negative) impact on its lifetime. ☺
